On September 14, Scott Wildeman, Sr. Vice President of Operations, had the honour of presenting Wellspring Calgary with a cheque for $22,008.57 raised at our Charity Golf Tournament.
“On behalf of World Health Calgary, Spa Lady and Bankers Hall Club, I would like to personally thank all of our sponsors, participants and volunteers who made the 2014 Charity Golf Tournament possible,” said Wildeman. “These funds are used to provide facilities and programs for people in our community who are facing cancer.”
In July, golfers hit the links at Lynx Ridge Golf Club in their Western Wear, embracing the tournament’s theme while raising funds through a round of golf, dinner reception, and both silent and live auctions.
Wellspring Calgary is a local organization. At their Carma House, located adjacent to Shouldice Park, they provide a beautiful, welcoming setting to help cancer patients, their friends, family and caregivers with physical and emotional support.
“From the moment you walk through the door, there’s just an overwhelming feeling of knowing you’re safe, you’re not alone, you’re with people who totally get it,” said Wellspring Calgary member Janis Simmons. “Wellspring Calgary literally saved my life. I got more support in the brief time I was there than I had in my whole journey. I felt like I was home.”
Our Mission statement as an organization is to “enrich people’s lives by inspiring a healthy and active lifestyle.” We feel that exercise makes an incredible contribution to people’s lives.
Wellspring does offer a variety of exercise programming for people going through cancer treatment. We feel that our relationship with Wellspring fits because of their focus on the whole person, and the fact that they are a local organization. Wellspring does not receive any provincial or federal government funding, so events like our golf tournament, toupee for a day, and the triWELLathon are what keep the organization going.
Thank you for helping us make a difference in our community. We look forward to next year’s tournament, scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2015.
